Spring break: the time of year some teachers love but also hate. At least that's how I feel about it. It's the last major break before the end of the school year, but it's also the longest stretch of the school year in my opinion. I thought I'd be spending it sick with a sinus infection, but I kicked the sinus infection's booty in a couple of days. My throat was essentially on fire Thursday. I drank some medicated hot tea to soothe it, and it felt better on Friday. It was just everything else that got worse. I braved the final day of school before spring break with a low grade fever, no voice, and a throbbing headache. I left an hour early to take some prescription strength IBProphen and take a 2 hour nap. I actually felt much better. By Saturday, I was pretty much back to normal.
Mr. Hubby and I decided we would take a road trip to Oklahoma on Saturday since he was off and I wanted to visit a certain store there. We had a nice breakfast after sleeping in then we got in the car and drove the two hours to Tishomingo, OK. Just some background...I'm a huge country music fan, and I love me some Miranda Lambert. In fact, I'm pretty sure we are best friends, just she doesn't know it yet. Her store, the Pink Pistol, is located in Tishomingo, and I've been wanting to go. We decided...why not? Since it was cold and rainy that day, we didn't get to do all the exploring we wanted to do. We did do some shopping at the Pistol and indulged in some A&W root beer floats despite the cold weather. We even visited a couple of other boutiques on the Main Street before ending our trip at a local dive Mexican food restaurant. Mr. Hubby claims they had the best tacos he's ever had! Here we have Mr. Hubby and I getting ready to embark on our quick adventure (I thought my WANTED hat with the pistols were fitting for this occasion)
Here is the store front
Here is something I really need in my life, but it's a tad out of my price range and I would have absolutely no where to put it.
Then of course, I had to sit in Miranda's chair!
Here are some of my purchases.
A shirt for warm and cold weather. That cup will probably be my new drinking cup at school.
Aside from this mini trip, I spent my break reading and cooking. Mr. Hubby and I went to visit his grandma on Wednesday. She's spirited and reminds me of my grandmother. Thanks to my mother-in-law for introducing me to this website: www.bookbub.com where you join for free and fill out your reading interests. Then, every day you get an email of 5-7 book recommendations based on your interests that range in price from FREE to $2.99. I usually stick with the freebies or $.99 books. I use my iPad to read from the Kindle and Nook app. You can choose how you want your books delivered. This is a must have website for any avid reader. Since last weekend, I've read 8 books. I average 1-1 1/2 books a day. I am now all caught up on all my series and am anxiously awaiting the next books to come out. It's not easy waiting. If anyone is interested in what I'm reading, please comment below and I'll be glad to give you my recommendations. My dog, Harley, likes to cuddle up and read with me. This is what I look like most of my time at home.
Mr. Hubby is not much of a reader, but I told him he must read Divergent before we went to see the movie next weekend. So, he decided to give it a shot, and he actually says he enjoys the book. He is also eating hamburger while reading...that's something that interests him as well.
I've also been cooking this week. I love to cook when I don't have to work. I've been getting my recipes from another fellow blogger: mixandmatchmama.blogspot.com
Tonight, I'm making her BBQ brisket tacos in the crockpot. I'll also be making her caramel apple neiman marcus bars and her sausage balls for a Sunday lunch pot luck. Her peanut butter chocolate chip neiman marcus bars are also delicious (and almost gone in this house). She also has a quick and delicious pot roast recipe in the crock pot that makes the roast fall apart when done. Check out her blog for all these delicious recipes.
Here is a sneak peek at what's coming up for my summer plans:
- finding a job closer to home
- volunteering at a local hospital
- more and more reading....OF COURSE
- writing some poetry for the upcoming school year
- I'm getting ambitious here, but I have a couple of novel ideas I'd like to try to write
- celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary in the Dominican Republic
- a couple of mini 3 day weekend vacations
Let's plow through the rest of this school year!
